The word Bible
means “book.” The Bible was given this name because it is the
book of God’s word to us. The bible is also called scripture
which means “writings.” The Bible is 66 books put together in
one big book. All the books within The Bible talk about the same
subject: Gods message to us. The Bible tells us about God, shows
us Gods mighty acts in the lives of his people and describes how
people responded to God. From The Bible we learn what God is
Like and what he expects from us.
How the Bible was Written
It took about 1,500 years for the whole bible to be written.
From Genesis, the first book of The Bible, to Revelation the
last book of The Bible. The books of The Bible had over 40
authors living at different times over 60 generations. The
authors lived on 3 different continents (Africa, Asia, and
Europe). All from different walks of life from kings and queens
to fisherman to doctors to many that walked side by side with
Jesus while he was here on earth. Yet not one of these writers
contradicts another. Now that is amazing. If you and your
friends were to spend a day together at an amusement park and at
the end of the day you all write about the day, I’m sure it
would not all line up perfectly. The awesome thing is that the
bible does not address meaningless ideas. It explains how the
earth and universe were created. How you were created and why.
It explains who God is and why did He make us. It
explains what He is like and what He expects of us. It
explains that this life is but a vapor and that we will all
live eternally in either heaven or hell (if your not sure
where you will go click on the The Gospel on this website).
The bible tells us that God guided the authors so they wrote
what he wanted them to say. This means that the bible is
completely dependable and trust worthy book. We can believe
everything in it because it comes from God. There are 26
other books that claim to be divinely inspired (such as the
book of Mormon, the Quran, etc….. but not one of them
contain any specific fulfilled prophecy. Over 1 in 4 verses
in the bible was prophetic at the time it was written and
much of it has come to pass. God keeps his promises. No
other book on this planet can make this claim. Look into the
historical facts. Verify them for yourself. The Bible is
divided into 2 main sections The Old Testament and The New
Testament The word testament means “will” or “covenant”.
The Old
Testament
The Old Testament is a collection of 39 books. Both Jews and
Christians accept these books as Scripture. The Old
Testament starts with the creation of the universe and of
the human race. Then it continues with the history of Gods
chosen people, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and their descendants,
whom God formed into the nation of Israel. In the old
Testament God begins to show his plan from saving people
from sin. Through his prophets he promised many times to
send the Messiah Jesus Christ, the savoir of sinners.
The New
Testament
The New Testament is made up of 27 books
accepted by Christians as Scripture. It tells
about the coming, birth, life, death and
resurrection of of Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
It explains the beginning of the Christian
church and how we should live our life from God
himself. It teaches and explains the second
coming of Jesus and Judgment on those that
reject Him. John 3:17 For God did not send his
Son into the world to condemn the world, but
that the world through him might be saved.”
The Bible
stands strong
The bible is the most remarkable book ever
written. It is by far the most widely circulated
book in the world. Every year more
than 22 million copies of the Complete Bible and
New Testament are circulated around the Globe.
The Bible has been translated more than any
other book (I said translated not
reinterpreted). The Bible is now available in
over 2,100 languages. Wow the creator of this
book must really want his Word out to the world.
Being written on material that perishes, having
to be copied and recopied for hundreds of years
before the invention of the printing press, did
not diminish its style, correctness or
existence. Mathew 24; 35 “Heaven and earth will
pass away, but by no means will My words pass
away. ”The Bible compared with other ancient
writings, has more manuscript evidence than any
other 10 pieces of classical literature
combined.
Survival through Persecution and Criticism
The Bible has withstood vicious attacks of its
enemies as no other book. Many have tried to
Burn it, ban it, and outlaw it from the days of
Roman emperors to present-day communist or
Islamic dominated countries. Infidels for 1,800
years have been attempting to refute and
overthrow it and yet it stands today as solid as
a rock. Its circulation increases and its more
loved and cherished and read today than ever
before. If this book had not been the Word of
God men would have destroyed it long ago.
Emperors, popes, kings and priest, princes and
rulers have all tried their hand at it: They die
and The Word of God still lives and always will.
Men will still try to destroy it. I would sure
hate to be on that loosing battle. You cant win
against God, he made you. He just wants you to
Love him. He loves You. John 3:16 For God so
loved the world He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him should not perish
but have everlasting life.”
